Google G Suite for education — GBMET

This 2017/19 GBMET Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA 3) project used digital technology to improve teaching and learning by generating greater awareness of the use of Google tools for education and of digital technologies. Through the project, they created resources and services, including instructional videos, a study skills site and drop-in sessions for students, as well as staff templates and face-to-face training and a G+ Community.

Improving Lives: exploring the effects of mindfulness training — Gateshead Council Learning and Skills

A project aiming to improve attendance, retention and progression of any learners who have challenging lives and to provide learners with a range of coping mechanisms that enable them to focus on a positive future. It also aimed to improve tutors' resilience in ways that help them to deal with and recover from challenging situations with learners.

Changing mindsets in formative assessment — Preston’s College

This Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA) project delivered in 2016 - 2017, was a collaboration between Preston’s College, Myerscough College, North Lancashire Training Group and the Lancashire Work-based Learning (WBL) Executive Forum. It aimed to develop assessors’ competencies in embedding formative assessment in apprenticeship delivery. A survey to identify existing use of formative assessment was carried to inform the provision of support and training.

Technical Route -Education and child care
One of the barriers to developing maths and English skills during work placement is a lack of awareness and in depth understanding of how maths and English GCSE’s and FS link to occupational areas within the 15 technical routes. These flyers attempt to summarise that mapping. Job roles are considered, recognising the importance of the technical skills that employers need plus promoting maths and English skills under calculation and communication

Embedding maths and English in technical and vocational programmes

This zip file contains the first drafts of fifteen flyers summarising the maths and English dimensions of a variety of technical and vocational areas. They were designed to help providers and employers to embed maths and English skills into their study programmes and work experience placements. Although these are still relevant there are now revised flyers that can be found on the Study Programmes Exhibition Site on the Excellence Gateway.

Summary paper and conclusions: the characteristics of pre-vocational programme design and delivery

To conclude the Foundation's inquiry into pre-vocational programmes in early 2016, a summary paper has been produced which sets out a number of conclusions and recommendations. Highlighting important characteristics of pre-vocational programme design and delivery, the report is of particular value to leaders, managers, teachers and trainers. The paper also identifies a number of key points and considerations which will be of interest to all involved in policy, planning and delivery.
