This resource presents 25 case studies of effective practice in employer engagement activities for learners aged 16 to 17 studying below Level 2. The case studies highlight the ways in which providers from across the FE sector design, recruit to, deliver and evaluate their employer engagement provision. The case studies are grouped by provider type.
This resource is for all types of providers and organisations working across the FE sector with 16 and 17 year olds studying below Level 2. It provides step-by-step guidance on how to design, deliver and evaluate effective employer engagement activities and secure good outcomes for this group of young people on their pathway to higher levels of study and/or employment.
In November 2017, we commissioned the Learning and Work Institute (L&W) to conduct research to identify employer engagement activities which are effective for learners aged 16 to 17, with low prior attainment (no qualifications at Level 2) studying at Entry Level and Level 1 in Further Education (FE) providers. The work aimed to support the successful implementation of the transition year referenced in the Government’s Post-16 Skills Plan, which will involve an element of employer engagement activity.
The aim of these training materials to place a stronger emphasis within prison officer entry level training, on supporting the vision of prisons as learning environments with education at their heart. The training materials include trainer guidance documentation, activities and handouts.

It provides the latest policy updates on apprenticeship reforms and addresses key challenges around teaching, learning and assessment. The guide also provides links to a wide range of resources and CPD training to support effective delivery of maths and English in apprenticeships.
The updated Functional Skills Maths subject content, published in February 2018, underpins the qualifications and sets out the purpose, learning aims and outcomes that students need to achieve.
