Let's make it real — Swindon New College and Plymouth College of Art

This Outstanding Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (OTLA) project aimed to change student attitudes to maths and English by providing exciting and engaging challenges, set by real employers and based on real-world scenarios. Students created a set of 11 career-specific online videos with accompanying task sheets. Local employers collaborated. When the videos were used with students there was a 7% increase in the number who agreed with the statement “Everyone needs to get a maths qualification” and a 2% increase in the number agreeing "Everyone needs to get an English qualification”.

One of the barriers to developing maths and English skills during work placement is a lack of awareness and in depth understanding of how maths and English GCSE’s and FS link to occupational areas within the 15 technical routes. These flyers attempt to summarise that mapping. Job roles are considered, recognising the importance of the technical skills that employers need plus promoting maths and English skills under calculation and communication.

Session Planners - Embedding Digital Skills

The Education and Training Foundation have produced a series of session planners to support practitioners teaching in offender learning. The aim of the planners is to embed the use of digital skills and collaborative skills development into their delivery. An Investigation into the use of Facebook using Social Network Analysis (SNA) to Identify Students “at Risk” in Further Education

A template personal profile that deaf people can download and complete to give employers information about reasonable adjustments they might need in the workplace or for work experience. The zip file also includes a sample completed passport.
