Efficiency Flush: Through this project, Grantham College and Boston College analysed their current water usage and explored and implemented practical low-cost solutions to save both water and money. The project involved students and staff in raising awareness and promoting the benefits to the wider community.

Cut the Carbon: Craven College

The aim of this sustainability project was to work in conjunction with Leeds Recycling to make recycling at Craven College a success and to have a ‘Zero Landfill’ policy. This would be done by several means; new types of bins, new composting areas, and the ‘Lets Go Zero’ campaign. This will eventually involve around 7000 people and cut our CO2 Emissions.

Cut the Carbon: City College Plymouth

This project aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using car parks and large flat roof areas, commonly found in older General FE Colleges, to generate energy through the use of ground source heat pumps and large solar arrays. The project sought to assess the impact of such installations relation to overall carbon reduction, the environment, sustainability, financial viability and short-term disruption.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: Workers' Educational Association

The aim of the project was to encourage and engage sustainability thinking within the WEA using the 3-sphere model of environment, economic and social sustainability. The project team sought to engage as many staff and members of the WEA as possible to get the organisation talking about sustainability at a grassroots level. The team established a website acting as an accessible virtual project home, which was populated by ideas, hints and tips about sustainability.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: New College Nottingham

Through this project, the college developed 'FutureProof' - an innovative programme of embedded tutorials and ‘Green Group’ activities, achieved through staff groups, curriculum and enrichment programmes to develop and embed a whole organisational approach to sustainability within the curriculum, the College, the local community and the wider FE sector.

This project aimed to develop a better understanding of how social media tools and technologies could be harnessed to help develop some of the necessary skills – those of connecting, creating and collaborating – not just amongst an elite few in specialist training or occupation but across a generation, to support preparation for, and shaping of, a low-carbon future.
