This guide is one of a series aimed at practitioners from a wide range of providers, including FE colleges, independent learning providers and those working in the Secure Estate, who support post-16 vocational learners to develop their maths skills up to and including level 2. This guide focuses on the maths embedded in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.

The guides, together with films which aim to stimulate viewers to reflect on their practice, have been created as part of the Maths Pipeline Programme.

This review, published one year on from the CAVTL report:
A. reflects on progress in raising the status and quality of vocational education and training;
B. recognises the significant contribution of the new Education and Training Foundation to the early implementation of the CAVTL recommendations;
C. signposts four key developments that would further develop and strengthen the outcomes and impact of a first-class VET system.

A comprehensive scheme of work for learners to prepare them for work-experience/placement. The nine topics covered include: What will I get out of it?, Where are the skills?, What jobs are there?, Could I do that job?, My dream job, Meet the experts, Health & Safety, E & D and the Right programme for me. Teaching and learning resources from the Standards Unit which include activities and guidance on aspects of health and safety at work such as preventing accidents, being alert to them, fire awareness, moving and handling, slipping, electricity, signage, etc. across a range of vocational areas.
