Cheshire College South and West outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment (OTLA 2) project in 2016/17 focused on using information and learning technology to improve teaching and learning in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, including engineering, construction and motor vehicle.
As part of the OTLA National Technical Programme, Harlow College worked with a group of other providers to develop a CPD package that aimed to improve teaching, learning and assessment in Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction.
One of the barriers to developing maths and English skills during work placement is a lack of awareness and in depth understanding of how maths and English GCSE’s and FS link to occupational areas within the 15 technical routes. These flyers attempt to summarise that mapping. Job roles are considered, recognising the importance of the technical skills that employers need plus promoting maths and English skills under calculation and communication.

This Lincoln College ETF/OTLA project focused on innovation in ILT for teaching, learning and assessment. You can read more about the project in the case study and access a simple worksheet. The worksheet uses QR codes as a way of integrating mobile technologies such as smart phones into the learning process. The QR codes help learners access information about different sorts of timber used in construction so they can choose which ones are appropriate for various elements of a building.

This zip file contains the first drafts of fifteen flyers summarising the maths and English dimensions of a variety of technical and vocational areas. They were designed to help providers and employers to embed maths and English skills into their study programmes and work experience placements. Although these are still relevant there are now revised flyers that can be found on the Study Programmes Exhibition Site on the Excellence Gateway.
This website is a valuable resource for teachers who are working with students with a variety of special needs. The training materials will help teachers to improve their understanding and skills and deliver quality learning to all students.
