Embedding Language, Literacy and Numeracy across the curriculum

etf:718

The aim of the Embedding LLN Starter Kit is to provide support and guidance for less experienced providers on the embedding of maths English and ESOL across the curriculum . It aims to support developments that will improve the quality of your embedded LLN offer and improve learner success. Although the terminology has now changed and the focus is now on 'English' and 'maths' the guidance on literacy and numeracy is still as relevant to the 'new' subjects. It is just as important to embed English and maths today as it was with the Skills for Life programme.

Creating accessible learning materials

etf:716

This toolkit is designed to enable teachers and trainers to create effective, engaging and accessible learning materials for their learners. Grouped into eight categories, this collection of guidance and resources merges pedagogical and technical advice where previously these have been scattered over several different channels. The aim is to provide effective resources for Learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (LLDD). These are also now called resources for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Numeracy starter kit

etf:714

This numeracy starter kit provides links to useful resources to help providers deliver maths, numeracy and functional maths in a variety of contexts. It will help new providers to get started and provide existing providers with useful advice on improving their delivery.

From Move on
Curriculum references: MSS1/E3.5, MSS1/E3.6, MSS1/E3.7
Contexts: Learners will use measuring in a number of everyday and vocational contexts and will find it useful to build their confidence in estimating and measuring using different units. They can also develop their awareness of the links between metric measures and the value of using a system which uses multiples of ten, hundred and thousand.

Estimating

From Move on
Curriculum references: N1/3.8, MSS1/E3.5, MSS1 /E3.6, MSS1/E3.7
Context: Being confident with estimating is a vital skill for learners to help them to check answers and to decide if answers calculated are reasonable or not. They will also use estimating in everyday or work contexts to estimate time, costs, distances, etc. Learners at Entry 3 will often have more skills than they realise and will build confidence from understanding how valuable a skill using estimating effectively can be.
