New to ESOL Teaching Materials (Topics 1-5)

etf:3084

The teaching materials are made up of five topics, each divided into four units. This document contains all of the materials for all five topics, which can be delivered in any order. The topics are typical for learners at this level, reflecting priority needs and, as far as possible, universally engaging subject matter relating to learners’ lives, experiences, opinions and plans. Each unit is accompanied by a set of instructions with ideas for the teacher/practitioner on how to use, adapt and supplement them.

Breaking the cycle: making a fresh start — Newcastle College

etf:3021

This Outstanding Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (OTLA 3) project, led by Newcastle College working with Community First North East, from 2017 to 2019, was initially designed to encourage collaboration and research among practitioners working in alternative education. It gave practitioners opportunities to explore the ingredients to create truly ‘alternative’ education programmes for young people not in education, employment or training. Early findings revealed the potential the alternative curriculum also had for improving most programmes targeting 16-19-year-olds.

Embedding maths and English in technical and vocational programmes

etf:2691

This zip file contains the first drafts of fifteen flyers summarising the maths and English dimensions of a variety of technical and vocational areas. They were designed to help providers and employers to embed maths and English skills into their study programmes and work experience placements. Although these are still relevant there are now revised flyers that can be found on the Study Programmes Exhibition Site on the Excellence Gateway.
