These six quality standards have been drafted to ensure greater consistency of provision and to improve outcomes for deaf young people. They are supported by case studies and further resources. They apply to young people with all levels of deafness including those without Education, Health and Care Plans. The six standards are relevant to all providers across the FE sector. They aim to support further education providers to: • evaluate the quality of their provision for deaf learners • inform the development of policies and plans • promote good practice.

This reference guide aims to provide teachers and trainers in the FE sector with an understanding of the potential impact of autism on learning and how to better support learners to achieve their full potential. It focuses on autism and related conditions from a neurodiversity perspective, including how staff can make the most of an individual’s strengths and positive characteristics that may be associated with their neurodiverse condition.

A number of case studies on ‘Mental Health and Apprenticeships’ have been created as part of the Future Apprenticeships programme. In this case study Wigan Adult Learning show how they help to create a culture of openness to allow apprentices to talk about any concerns they may have. They showcase effective practice and provide practical examples of how to support apprentices wellbeing and mental health.

This resource comprises a case study and video developed by Bedford College Deaf Services, illustrating the support offered to Deaf learners. All Deaf learners who attend the college are supported by a Deaf Co-ordinator, and the aim of the Deaf Services at Bedford College is to attract more learners and help prepare them for working/living within the hearing environment, whilst offering a supportive network to enable them to develop the necessary skills.
