Mathematics in Further Education Colleges (MiFEC) Summer Update 2018

etf:2870

The Mathematics in Further Education Colleges (MiFEC) summer update provides a brief update on progress with the project since September 2017 and presents a few of the emerging findings. Early findings from the project offer some insight into how policy is being enacted and shaping practice in four strands: 1) A national policy trajectory analysis and literature review; 2) Analyses of student progression over time; 3) Case studies of Further Education colleges; and, 4) A survey of the mathematics teacher workforce.

Showcasing learners capabilities to prospective employers

etf:2854

The Develop Cluster Group worked with the Mitie Foundation who co-produced a Business Challenge Day for their high needs learners. This enterprise day was to inspire and showcase our learners’ capability to prospective employers who could potentially offer work experience or paid work in the future. This zipped file includes the SEND Workforce Development Study Programme project's case study, dissemination presentation and employer leaflet.

Reimagining assessment and tracking in maths and English: a review of the wider literature supporting the need for change

etf:2827

This review was produced by the CETTAcademy team as part of an Education and Training Foundation project to review the current literature regarding the practices of initial and diagnostic assessment, as well as progress tracking, in the context of maths and English across the Education and Training sector.

Advanced Practitioner Toolkit - Professional Development Cards

etf:2826

This toolkit has been produced to support the work of Advanced Practitioners (APs). It builds on an original set of cards used to develop the skills of teaching and learning coaches who, using a peer to peer coaching model, work with staff to improve specific aspects of their delivery. The cards are practical tools aimed at supporting APs to drive quality improvements in teaching, learning and assessment across provision. They can be used when working one to one with collages as well as with small groups and department teams.

Collection of Case Studies - Sharing effective practice to support the ‘Transition Year’

etf:2823

This resource presents 25 case studies of effective practice in employer engagement activities for learners aged 16 to 17 studying below Level 2. The case studies highlight the ways in which providers from across the FE sector design, recruit to, deliver and evaluate their employer engagement provision. The case studies are grouped by provider type.

A provider guide – How to design and deliver effective employer engagement activities

etf:2822

This resource is for all types of providers and organisations working across the FE sector with 16 and 17 year olds studying below Level 2. It provides step-by-step guidance on how to design, deliver and evaluate effective employer engagement activities and secure good outcomes for this group of young people on their pathway to higher levels of study and/or employment.

Research findings report – Identifying effective practice in employer engagement in provision for 16/17 year olds on courses below Level 2

etf:2821

In November 2017, we commissioned the Learning and Work Institute (L&W) to conduct research to identify employer engagement activities which are effective for learners aged 16 to 17, with low prior attainment (no qualifications at Level 2) studying at Entry Level and Level 1 in Further Education (FE) providers. The work aimed to support the successful implementation of the transition year referenced in the Government’s Post-16 Skills Plan, which will involve an element of employer engagement activity.
