Principal focus of the project:

The aim of this project was to build resilience and raise aspirations amongst GCSE and A-Level students by establishing a reading culture, setting higher expectations, and improving individualised learning.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

To gradually normalise a culture of reading and reduce resistance to it, building student resilience was embedded into self-led study and weeky schedules. Three broad teaching and learning strategies approaches were adopted, including flipped reading, use of interactive programmes, and extra English sessions. This required teachers to develop their own resources, delivery methodologies, and responsiveness to group needs. The project reported varied levels of impact, but enough to encourage them to take this forward.
