The Sustaining Our Future Framework aims to:
A. Build common understanding of what sustainable development is about, what it means for the sector and why the sector should collectively respond to it.
B. Alert providers to the business benefits of being a sustainable organisation, and how these benefits can be realised in an increasingly demand-led environment
C. Establish a common set of themes for action.
Through this project - entitled 'Sustainability and Responsible Stewardship: Bringing it all Together' - the college aimed to: raise awareness and understanding in a number of diverse groups in relation to their personal contribution to the sustainability agenda; enter dialogue with the New Engineering Foundation who would provide data evidencing need, advice and guidance along with on-project support; and encourage individuals to make a big difference. Using the title of ‘Pass it On’- it was intended that a sharing and raising of awareness would take place across a wider audience.
As the largest college in the South-East, Sussex Downs College aimed, through this 'Eco Pledge Project', to measure and embed sustainable practices working towards a zero waste strategy. Activities were designed to influence and raise understanding of climate change impact both in the organisation and amongst other learning partners, while new curriculum delivery addressed skills gaps in emerging employability areas.
