An OTLA project by South Devon College that aimed to raise learner achievement and aspiration by developing a new progressive marking strategy across the English department.
The aim of this project was to raise learner achievement and aspiration by developing a new progressive marking strategy across the English department.
A ‘continuous learner assessment cycle’ - Level Up, inspired by the ‘DIRT’ model widely used in the schools sector, was created as a tool for staff. Re-marking of upgraded work was added to the cycle, and provided recognition for progress made. The project reported that the process had encouraged a new aspirational culture for all learners to strive to produce the best work possible, rather than settling for mediocrity, which had been evidenced by significant uplifts in attainment.
