Principal focus of the project:

This project explored how to empower highly dependent learners,  lacking in self- confidence, to adopt appropriate strategies to develop their independence.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

A self-assessment tool was designed to get a better understanding of the learner as a whole person, rather than just someone who had to develop their English skills. Volunteers were then recruited and trained to provide an initial injection of one-to-one time with learners to help them identify their own needs and develop their confidence. This was supplimented by the creation of a Lunch Club. The project reported that learners had made progress, achieving well in English and developing their soft skills, and that the approach seemed to show that one-to-one time was a sound economic investment.
