Principal focus of the project:

This project aimed to identify strategies to help overcome the barriers students face when trying to engage with a non-fiction text.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The project initially recruited a team of lecturers and student researchers to develop approaches, which were tested with the GCSE student cohort, before being implemented. Trial exam papers were then compiled, using adapted more student-centric questions, to attempt to overcome potential barriers to achievement. The project reported that the collaborative approach they had taken with students had helped them self-assess their own learning, and given them greater confidence with reading.
