An OTLA project by Cambridge Regional College that explored how a reading culture could be created and promoted more widely and explicitly at the college.
This project aimed to explore how a reading culture could be created and promoted more widely and explicitly to reduce the impact of social and educational disadvantage.
A small professional learning community was created to explore three approaches to achieving the aims of the project: promoting reading generally across the college; targetting a group with dedicated reading time; and creating a Reading Room for a cohort of Alternative Provision learners (14-16 year-olds). The project reported that a whole college approach had been important to achieve an attitudinal change towards reading, but had also developed stronger links across staff teams.
