Stepping Up in Sustainability: Dorset Adult Learning

The 'Stepping Up Sustainability in Dorset' project delivered activities relating to sustainable development throughout the sub region of Dorset through the recruitment, training and development of a group of community sustainability champions who would work collaboratively with the Service to research interest, plan, develop and deliver activities and open events for the public. As well as capacity building, the project focused on family learning, improving learning delivery and enhancing access to learning. Four case studies were produced through the project.

Developing Apprenticeships - Elmvine: Progression through Apprenticeships

This set of resources relates to one of nine projects focusing on developing Apprenticeships, employer responsiveness and pre-employment provision. The projects designed, piloted and delivered activity in one or more of the above strands, including workshops, study or exchange visits, coaching and mentoring, consultancy and the development of self assessment tools.

Newham College of FE: Standardised learning resources for online delivery of cross curriculum employability skills

Engaging learners in a non-traditional classroom environment such as a PC based area can prove to be difficult unless learners are clearly directed and engaged with materials relevant to their course area. This project explored how to address attendance, engagement and achievement of learners during supported independent study (SIS).

Mantra Learning: Get Skilled – Get Noticed – Get On: digital marketing in employability programmes

In 2011 Mantra commissioned a review of the processes associated with its Job Gym employability programmes, focusing on the touch points with learners, the administrative processes and data flows associated with these programmes. This project was a pilot to assess the capabilities of Digital Marketing technologies in contributing to improvements in this expanding business area.

The Bridge Education Centre: Creating efficiencies in satellite mentoring and on site tutoring of 13-19s with alternative education provider

This case study shows how the Bridge Education Centre was able to use increased ICT provision to effectively support both onsite provision as well as offsite mentor-based provision to harder to reach young people, and facilitate the expansion of this provision.

Accountancy Plus (Training) Limited: Engaging remote Key Skills learners through Virtual Classrooms

This case study sets out how a Virtual Classroom was used to facilitate remotely delivered Key Skills workshops for those learners who are unable (or unwilling) to attend formal workshops. The key objective was to engage with learners to maintain ‘timely success’ rates and to do so with a reduction in the cost of delivery.

Improving services for employers: Vision West Nottinghamshire College

This resource comprises the outputs from one of a series of projects to test a range of approaches to improving and extending training and related business services for employers. The college has a large Skills Funding Agency Apprenticeship College contract and wanted to explore how to better support apprentices in their workplace to maintain their engagement and motivation. Involving employers in this process has been seen to have a positive impact, leading to lower drop-out rates, improved attendance and timely completion.
