Herefordshire College of Technology (Holme Lacy Campus: Improving Retention and Success case study
008/09, Henley College needed to improve retention, achievement and overall success rates for students in the Public Service programme area. This case study describes how they went about using the flexibilities of QCF units and qualifications to develop their curriculum offer which, in 2010/11, resulted in a 30% increase in achievement and success rates, and a 6% increase in retention.

The college is a partner organisation within an ERDF part-funded Incubation and Enterprise project led by Leeds City College. As a result of the programme learners have achieved, retention and success rates have also improved and learners, who traditionally might not have thought of going to work, are now actively trying to seek employment or supported employment.
Otley College created this set of files as a positive response to the issues arising from the Level 1 provision at the College and the need to improve College retention rates as identified in the 2010 College Quality Improvement Plan.

City College Plymouth aimed to engage new learners from disaffected and deprived backgrounds to become college students. It worked with community based iorganisations, such as the Shekinah mission (an organisation supporting homeless people) delivering learning at their premises, and then identified progression opportunities to join a mainstream college course.
