    This project developed collaborative communities of practice - informed by Pre-Entry Level and ESOL learner feedback - to trial the effectiveness of a range of active learning techniques.

    What is this about and what were the main findings: 

    Observations had indicated opportunities for involving adult learners in lessons were being missed. Tutors from Kensington and Chelsea College (FE College), Clement James, Westway and Nova New Opportunities (Third Sector organisations) formed a community of practice; captured their learners' preferences and dislikes; and then piloted relevant active learning techniques with them. This approach improved learner confidence, resulted in greater active engagement, and importantly accelerated learning. Tutors benefitted too from the knowledge exchange, as it helped them to develop their own skills.
