A case study of a project exploring whether online learning approaches could improve learners' attitudes to retaking GCSE English Language assessments.
The project created an online learning course for those achieving a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language, covering a series of topics focussed on demonstrating the value of English language skills in real life (with titles such as "Why English Matters" and "Writing a CV"), packaged using Padlet and used during tutorials over a six-week period.
92% of students involved in the project said at the end that they had a good understanding of why having English language skills was important for their future career, up from 78% at the start. Achievement rose among participating students at both colleges involves in the case study, and the pass rate in one participating college also rose.
