Description:

An OTLA project by City Lit exploring whether using the cognitive profiles of English for Life learners could help to improve teaching and learning strategies.

Practitioner Research and Evidence Hub:
Yes
Principal focus of the project:

The aim of this project was to explore whether it was possible to use the cognitive profiles of English for Life (Entry Level to L1) learners to help improve teaching and learning strategies.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

City Lit's research had shown that sometimes the specific learning difficulties of their adult learners had previously been mis-identified. To get a more accurate understanding of the neurodiversities of these learners, an expert - supported by tutors - designed an initial diagnostic assessment, the results of which informed adopting more appropriate teaching and learning strategies. Having implemented them, the initial findings suggested that adapting in response to learners’ cognitive profiles had postively impacted their progress.
