This set of guides and workbooks for practitioners from the Standards Unit aims to improve motivation through focussing on being learner-centred and using motivational dialogue to achieve step changes in an e2e context. Whilst these materials were designed for a programme that has now been superseded, the material is still valid.
This set of resources for practitioners and learners from NTLCP aims to improve motivation. The activities focus on being learner-centred and using motivational dialogue to achieve step changes. The activities are versions of the 'Wheel of change' and are supported by guidance and materials.
A comprehensive set of CPD guides for practitioners designed originally by the Standards Unit to improve the delivery of e2e, that also contains activities for learners. Whilst Foundation Learning has superseded e2e, the vast majority of the content of these resources is still relevant.
A set of resources exploring Confidentiality - includes a teacher's handbook and supplementary handbook, learner's handbook and activity guide. Particularly useful for SHD and Foundation Level working.
A series of activity-based booklets from the Standards Unit that help both teacher and learner to develop their Observation Skills. Topics covered include: Development, Planning, Methods, Interpreting observations, Conclusions, Referencing, Checklists, Graphs and Sampling.
THE PURPOSE OF THE GUIDANCE
The main aim of this initial Guidance is to provide further information on the Professional Standards so that practitioners can use them in their individual working contexts. Its other purpose is to provide support for the Professional Standards as they are being introduced, to help inform and provide clarity around their uses and purposes.
The 2014 professional standards:
• set out clear expectations of effective practice in Education and Training;
• enable teachers and trainers to identify areas for their own professional development;
• support initial teacher education;
• provide a national reference point that organisations can use to support the development of their staff.
The corresponding Guidance, which was developed with the support of practitioners, aims to help teachers and trainers use the standards and apply them to the context in which they work.

Shrewsbury College has produced an assessment tool for use in the recruitment of teachers that reflects and tests potential employees’ commitment to the professional standards; the guide includes an impact study on the use of learning communities to embed the standards, as well as a new teacher appraisal format that encourages reflection on performance against the standards and an approach for planning individual development in the three core areas of the standards.
The focus of Manchester College’s guide captures practitioners’ experiences of embedding the Professional Standards in offender learning settings, through the medium of DigiLit and CPD opportunities. The guide shows how it is possible to create engaging and inclusive lessons through worked examples.
