Trowel occupations Module 4: Setting out.

In this module learners practise the basic requirements of measuring - reading and understanding large numbers, calculating with metric measurements, and accurate metric measuring using a range of builders' tape measures. The module also includes basic setting out techniques using pegs and profiles, calculation of running dimensions, checking for 'square' by using a builder's square and the 3:4:5 method. Trowel occupations Module 3: Working with drawings.

Working drawings are critical to construction work. It is essential that everyone in the building team is able to understand and interpret them as appropriate to their needs. To do this requires good spatial skills, an understanding of scale and the ability to interpret symbols and metric measurement. In this module learners have the opportunity to practise these skills using real drawings available in the Source material.

To be an effective member of a building team it is important to understand the lines of authority within the workplace, the roles and responsibilities of others, how to deal with site visitors, how to manage conflict at work and how to contribute to team meetings. Transport Module 5: Aviation - operations on the ground.

This module focuses on the underpinning literacy and numeracy skills needed by ground operations employees in the aviation industry, including: understanding roles and responsibilities at work, working as part of a team, communicating with both customers and other staff, accessing information in manuals, following procedures and instructions, reporting accidents and incidents, checking codes, weighing luggage and calculating excess baggage. Transport Module 4: Rail operations.

This module focuses on the underpinning literacy and numeracy skills needed by customer-facing employees in the rail industry, including: understanding roles and responsibilities, reading workplace policies and procedures, understanding timetables, working out best-value fares, communicating by radio and mobile phone, using the phonetic alphabet to communicate, understanding station reports, understanding a rule book, cashing up, completing short forms, reporting accidents and incidents and making announcements.
