It includes: reading operator manuals, pre-start checks, maintenance and fault finding, using parts lists and diagrams. Horticulture Module 3: Pesticides

This module looks at some of the skills that learners need to achieve competence in using pesticides and to maintain safe working practices with pesticides. There are two main topics: reading and understanding information about pesticides, numeracy skills required for calibrating knapsack sprayers. Horticulture Module 2: Growing

This module uses a planting plan as a starting point and includes work to support learners in the following areas: understanding a planting plan, plant names, reading information about plants, communicating information to others. Hairdressing Module 5: Giving a good impression

In this module teachers and learners will consider ways of creating a good impression, the appraisal process and a variety of strategies for reading and understanding a wide range of written information as well as thinking about ways of coping with difficult clients. The module covers the following: job roles and responsibilities, communicating in the salon, checking wage slips, commission, incentives and targets, appraisal, NVQ jargon and dealing with problems. Hairdressing Module 4: Working safely in the salon

The themes in this module support learners to access and follow health and safety information. The module includes: finding and reading health and safety information, taking part in training sessions, assessing risk, following workplace policies and procedures and reporting accidents and incidents both verbally and in writing.
