Learning Futures Project - Digital approaches to English and maths with traineeships and apprentceships

This project from the Association of Colleges in the Eastern Region (ACER) supported tutors and assessors to use learning technologies to improve the delivery and assessment of maths and English within apprenticeship and traineeship programmes. The team also worked with governors and senior leaders to develop tools to embed learning technology within strategic planning and decision-making.

Design for Improvement: a service design approach for Further Education providers

Service design is an approach that can be used to improve Further Education (FE) provider services and strategies. This guide describes how FE providers can apply service design processes and tools to improve recruitment, attainment, achievement and progression figures. The tools and process contained here were put into practice by five FE providers that took part in the Design for Improvement programme. Funded by the Learning, Skills and Improvement Service and designed and delivered by Uscreates, Design for Improvement is a learn-by-doing training programme.

Staying Safe inside and outside College

These materials can support teachers/trainers and tutors in thinking about introducing safeguarding to learners. They were produced for LSIS by the National Association for Managers of Students Services in Colleges (NAMSS) and they look at safeguarding both within the college (or any learning environment) and outside. The materials include presentations to use with learners, as well as a lesson plan, icebreaker activity and tutorial template.

National Union of Students UK (NUS): Student-led dialogue on LGBT and Faith

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by the Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by the National Union of Students (NUS). The overall aim of the initiative was to support staff and learners to tackle real and perceived tensions between lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equalities, and religion and belief equalities, in FE colleges. The project focused on dialogue as a means to increase and improve inter-personal communication between learners relating to the subject of faith and sexuality.

Friends Centre: Promoting LGBT Equality

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by an Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by the Friends Centre. This project focused on how best to promote LGBT equality in line with race, gender and disability equality within an adult and community education setting in Brighton & Hove. It involved consultation with adult learners, staff, volunteers, other learning providers and the wider community on LGBT equality, identify key issues and concerns, and developing a whole organisation approach to promoting LGBT inclusion.

New College Swindon and Swindon College - Research into experience of BME groups in post 16 further education in Swindon

This Equality & Diversity Partneship project undertook research into factors affecting academic under-achievement by identified ethnic groups in post-16 further education in the Swindon area and recommended actions to address these. The principal focus was on 16-19 year old minority ethnic students studying for long courses. The aim was to enable the colleges to improve student experience and success at college.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: Leicester Adult Skills & Learning Service with Lincolnshire Lifelong Learning Service

The 'Green Families Project' took forward work across two contrasting local authorities to develop skills and motivation, creating and embedding resources within Family Learning programmes. The combined effect of tjhese activities would be to bring about small changes in behaviour, realising more sustainable practices in the home of all participants and in the organisations that they engage with.
