OTLA case study of an operational project on embedding literacy into performing arts courses led by Clean Break

This case study is a project for embedding literacy into performing arts courses. Four computers were purchased and, given the relative lack of IT expertise at Clean Break, collaboration with specialists at City and Islington College was set up to facilitate this.

How to stay safe online

Being eSafe relies on selecting appropriate privacy levels, knowing how to behave online and understanding the risks of using the Internet and mobile technologies: having the tools and the knowledge to be able to work safely. This resource comprises a presentation and lesson plan to support teachers in introducing e-safety to learners. Before using this presentation with learners it is essential that the person delivering the training works their way through the material and associated notes. The presentation needs to be played as a slideshow to access the links embedded into it.

Staying Safe inside and outside College

These materials can support teachers/trainers and tutors in thinking about introducing safeguarding to learners. They were produced for LSIS by the National Association for Managers of Students Services in Colleges (NAMSS) and they look at safeguarding both within the college (or any learning environment) and outside. The materials include presentations to use with learners, as well as a lesson plan, icebreaker activity and tutorial template.

Introducing safeguarding to learners - presentation and activity pack

These materials are designed to be used with learners with mixed abilities and ages, from a range of learning and skills settings, and include materials for a number of activities. They are a starting point for raising awareness of safeguarding issues in their organisation and may need adjustment or additions to be more suitable for your learners. The presentation takes learners through all of the activities and materials for activities 2-4 are provided. You can make any appropriate changes as necessary, and are encouraged to offer support to learners with specific learning needs.

Bedford College: Creating Deaf Space

This resource comprises a case study and video developed by Bedford College Deaf Services, illustrating the support offered to Deaf learners. All Deaf learners who attend the college are supported by a Deaf Co-ordinator, and the aim of the Deaf Services at Bedford College is to attract more learners and help prepare them for working/living within the hearing environment, whilst offering a supportive network to enable them to develop the necessary skills. The resources included are a case study and a video.

Stubbing Court Training Limited: Promoting best practice in Equality and Diversity

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by the Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by Stubbing Court Training Ltd. The project aimed to create an accessible resource that promoted the importance of equality and diversity and inspired employers to take positive action. It also delivered high quality taster opportunities with employers for under-represented groups, with unemployed individuals identified by Jobcentres.

St Johns School and College: Raising aspirations - creating opportunities to enable more young people with LDD to effectively access Apprenticeships

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by the Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by St John’s College. The project developed an advisory and support pack for use by Independent Specialist Providers (ISPs) to enable them to ensure that young people with LDD are able to access Apprenticeships where appropriate. The pack has been designed to meet the needs of apprenticeship providers and their networks of employers.

National Union of Students UK (NUS): Student-led dialogue on LGBT and Faith

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by the Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by the National Union of Students (NUS). The overall aim of the initiative was to support staff and learners to tackle real and perceived tensions between lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equalities, and religion and belief equalities, in FE colleges. The project focused on dialogue as a means to increase and improve inter-personal communication between learners relating to the subject of faith and sexuality.

Humber Learning Consortium: Improving E&D practice across a voluntary and community sector network

This resource comprises the report and resources developed by the Equality and Diversity Partnership Project led by the Humber Learning Consortium. The overall aim was to improve equality and diversity practice across a network of 20 voluntary community sector (VCS) learning providers in the Humber sub-region. A Quality Improvement Network was launched and questionnaire created and completed by 20 VCS delivery partners.
