A case study of a project for sharing occupational expertise between Milton Keynes College and construction sector employers, and for providing work exchanges to improve employability for offendors and ex-offendors in the sector.
The project focused on work exchanges between the college and employers to provide a clear and visible path to employment for offender learners by updating the curriculum according to industry needs and practices.
Teachers were able to bring real world experience into prison education settings and undertake exchanges with construction employers, increasing learner motivation through links to employability. Employers also enhanced their understanding of the transferable skills and occupational expertise of ex-offenders; ex-offenders experienced enhanced resettlement and rehabilitation.
