Principal focus of the project:

The aim of this project was to raise the retention and resilience levels of adult Entry L3 to L2 Functional Skills English students by developing and trialling a suite of resources that embedded core English skills into themed lessons on Wellbeing and Emotional Resilience.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

Many adult students suffering from long term physical and mental health issues, or facing life changes, find it difficult to engage with and sustain learning. Hourly paid teachers were given the rare opportunnity to benefit from CPD, and then collaborate to produce a set of integrated Wellbeing and Emotional Resilience resources to trial with their English groups over a term. The general consensus amongst students and tutors was that this approach enhanced wellbeing and emotional resilience, which was reflected by the improved retention.
