Cut the Carbon: New Directions, Reading Borough Council

This project sought to check and improve the energy performance of two community buildings actively used by local learners. Carbon performance was assessed and specific action improvement plans identified. The project produced a short educational video for staff and the community about sustainable building management, in particular looking at behavioural changes issues.

Cut the Carbon: Grantham College

Efficiency Flush: Through this project, Grantham College and Boston College analysed their current water usage and explored and implemented practical low-cost solutions to save both water and money. The project involved students and staff in raising awareness and promoting the benefits to the wider community.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: Workers' Educational Association

The aim of the project was to encourage and engage sustainability thinking within the WEA using the 3-sphere model of environment, economic and social sustainability. The project team sought to engage as many staff and members of the WEA as possible to get the organisation talking about sustainability at a grassroots level. The team established a website acting as an accessible virtual project home, which was populated by ideas, hints and tips about sustainability.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: New College Nottingham

Through this project, the college developed 'FutureProof' - an innovative programme of embedded tutorials and ‘Green Group’ activities, achieved through staff groups, curriculum and enrichment programmes to develop and embed a whole organisational approach to sustainability within the curriculum, the College, the local community and the wider FE sector.

College checklist for dealing with serious youth violence and gangs

This audit tool, developed in partnership with London Colleges and the AoC, can be used by colleges and providers to assess the extent to which potential interventions to address youth crime and gangs are already in place or should be implemented. The tool covers a breadth of themes including management and leadership; policies and procedures; and managing information.

Physical Contact Policy: example from Beaumont College

This document presents an example of a physical contact policy drawn up by Beaumont College. The policy provided a framework and guidelines for the types of activity where positive physical contact occurs and how this contact should be made. The purpose of this policy was to promote positive contact to support emotional and cognitive functioning and development for all learners of the College.
