Principal focus of the project:

The study set out to discover the extent to which the institution's Learning and Skills Department met the needs of its young people. I drew on learner views on education and training provision, gathering data through self-report questionnaires, focus groups, and one-to-one interviews with learners. Their responses were analysed statistically and thematically according to the source data.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

Learners expressed preferences for vocational courses as opposed to classroom based courses, A particular focus of the needs analysis the additional support needs of the learners. It revealed the complexity of needs which affected behaviour more than learning - though the learners often did not recognise the impact their emotions and behaviour had on their learning. A number of recommendations were made to strengthen the focus on vocational skills. Data was gathered from interviews/surveys.
