Principal focus of the project:

The aim of this project was to develop a resource which would better motivate and engage GCSE English resit students with unseen texts.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The main driver for this project was to find a coherent, cohesive and more manageable alternative to the existing 'student folders' (crammed with worksheets and handouts), that would be more motivating and engaging to students. A reading booklet (workbook) based around Susan Hill's 'Woman in Black' was created, focussing scaffolded bite-sized activities around key extracts from the text. Project leads found this approach successful in engaging and maintaining student interest; assisting meaningful progression; developing their exam techniques; and ultimately improving learner achievement levels.
