Description:

A website by Bedford College (Shuttleworth Campus). This is a web based summary created by Bedford College (Shuttleworth Campus) focussed on exploring the benefits of using mobile technology and the use of augmented reality (AR) on a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Husbandry.

Practitioner Research and Evidence Hub:
Yes
Principal focus of the project:

The focus was to find out if students would be able to learn to use such technology themselves when presenting their course assignment.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

As 68% of students had Android phones, it meant that if they were to develop their use of AR they should continue to explore the use of Layar, as Aurasma could only be used on i-phones to full effect. The need for wi-fi was vital to have effective AR working for learners, many of whom had been put off by weak signals  in certain areas. From the survey it was clear that not all learners had smart phones so it had still been vital for the college to invest in a small stock tablets to ensure equality of access.

•The opportunity to use AR promoted more collaborative learning as students worked together to gather information and create their assignment evidence.
