Principal focus of the project:

The aim of the project was to explore whether online assessment and activities could improve lesson planning, foster independent learning and improve learner progression in  Maths.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The whole Maths department opted to trial DFM - a free resource that: could assess and track learner progression, provide videos, and included past exam questions and paper resources. It was used with GCSE, Functional Skills, A-Level and adult learners. Online formative assessments were developed, which automatically populated feedback grids 'live' - informing model responses in class - and allowing the identification of gaps in individual learning for both staff and learners. Supporting videos were used to reinforce learning. The project reported that learners had been empowered to identify their own gaps, monitor their own progress, and to view videos to revise and practice the skills they needed.
