Stepping Up in Sustainability: Blackpool and the Fylde College - Student Entitlement to Education for Sustainable Development

The project was designed to enable a better understanding of sustainable development (SD) amongst tutors, and allow them to experiment with SD within different areas of the curriculum. The project aimed to: develop a strategy to embed SD into all curriculum areas; create piloted and evaluated SD activities and lesson plans in four curriculum areas; educate staff on the subject of SD; work with a wide variety of staff to develop SD pedagogies; and create an online ESD resource bank for FE and HE tutors offering lesson plans and resources that can be adapted to suit each curriculum area.

Stepping Up in Sustainability: Accrington and Rossendale College - Sustainable Development @accross

Through this project the college aimed to implement and embed a strategy and action plan for sustainable development across the college focusing on three key areas:
Staffing – embedding sustainable development in induction and appraisal
Students – embedding sustainable development in induction, enrichment & tutorial
Curriculum development – development of a sustainable development education curriculum framework

Regional Sustainability Collaboration project: Yorkshire & The Humber - The world of Hair and Beauty

This project aimed to produce high-quality transferable teaching materials developed collaboratively by range of providers, based on the concept of a circular economy and the world of Hair & Beauty. The project sought to increase regional engagement through a cohort of students and their staff who would examine and audit their existing curriculum for evidence of sustainability and inform the embedding of sustainability into more areas of the curriculum.

Regional Sustainability Collaboration project: West Midlands - Developing ICT based projects to contribute towards best practice in sustainability

Focusing on resource efficiency and carbon reduction, this project sought to develop a simple and low-cost system for allocation of estates management maintenance jobs, as well as a carbon-cost register for recording savings made by webinar-based meetings and training. and a Moodle-based Health & Safety staff awareness training course to reduce the resource costs of delivering this training.

Regional Sustainability Collaboration project: South West - Information leaflet for college governors

The aim was to create a brief information leaflet for governors on CSR and sustainable development. The leaflet was intended to signpost useful information resources and case studies. The leaflet was expected to make a difference in its wider circulation to chairs, clerks and members of governing bodies as it would raise awareness of how governors can support this agenda.

Regional Sustainability Collaboration project: North West - Embedding the Circular Economy within the Curriculum

This project looked at including sustainability, specifically the concept of the circular economy, within the Fashion and Catering curriculum within providers across the region, and at developing transferable resources that could be used across the learning and skills sector.

Regional Sustainability Collaboration project: North East - NE Regional Sustainable Enterprise Market

The aim of the project was to provide a NE Regional Competition for education providers that would promote sustainability within a variety of curriculum areas. At the same time creating a bridge between sustainability and enterprise which would promote the concept of self-employment based around the idea of ‘sustainability’ as a realistic future option for learners.

Regional Collaboration project East of England: led by Esin Esat, Bedford College - Collaborative Sustainability Leadership

The key purpose of this project was to build the capacity of member organisations to be the Sustainability Leaders for the Region. Initial stages would focus on developing the sustainability policy and strategy in each organisation, with future activity focusing on disseminating good practice across and beyond the boundaries of the region.
