Early years Module 5: Providing a role model

In this module learners are asked to consider awareness of how books can be used, and which features need to be demonstrated in order for children to become competent readers themselves, reading aloud and an awareness of punctuation, open questioning, phonics and an awareness of grammar. The areas of numeracy that learners are asked to consider in this module are: mathematical language, understanding measure and understanding time. One of five modules support the teaching of Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Early years They do not supply a complete programme of learning.

Early years Module 4: The individual child.

This module looks at reading and understanding an individual profile, gathering information to contribute to a profile, completing a profile and working as part of a team. One of five modules support the teaching of Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Early years They do not supply a complete programme of learning. Instead, aspects of the training that place a particular demand on literacy, language and numeracy skills have been prioritised.

Early years Module 3: Communicating early years.

In this module, learners will have the opportunity to explore and practise a range of communication skills they will need in an Early years setting. These include: adapting communication to a wide range of people and situations, awareness of body language, communicating using positive language, asking for information, active listening, fact and opinion and confidentiality. One of five modules support the teaching of Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Early years They do not supply a complete programme of learning.

Early years Module 2: Health and safety.

The themes in this module support learners to access and follow health and safety information. They include: taking notes during training, reading instructions that include graphics, reading product labels, following security and fire procedures, making emergency phone calls, reporting accidents and incidents both verbally and in writing, temperature and involving children in safety matters. One of five modules support the teaching of Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Early years They do not supply a complete programme of learning.

Early years Module 1: Working with children.

The themes in this module support learners to read and understand important information as well as listen to instructions. They include: understanding a job description and contract of employment, reading workplace policies and procedures, reading and understanding frameworks and guidance documents, listening to and remembering work instructions and using rotas effectively. There is also a theme intended to help those learners who have to deal with money.
