Design for Improvement: a service design approach for Further Education providers

etf:1999

Service design is an approach that can be used to improve Further Education (FE) provider services and strategies. This guide describes how FE providers can apply service design processes and tools to improve recruitment, attainment, achievement and progression figures. The tools and process contained here were put into practice by five FE providers that took part in the Design for Improvement programme. Funded by the Learning, Skills and Improvement Service and designed and delivered by Uscreates, Design for Improvement is a learn-by-doing training programme.

The Sustaining Our Future Framework aims to:
A. Build common understanding of what sustainable development is about, what it means for the sector and why the sector should collectively respond to it.
B. Alert providers to the business benefits of being a sustainable organisation, and how these benefits can be realised in an increasingly demand-led environment
C. Establish a common set of themes for action.

How to stay safe online

etf:1887

Being eSafe relies on selecting appropriate privacy levels, knowing how to behave online and understanding the risks of using the Internet and mobile technologies: having the tools and the knowledge to be able to work safely. This resource comprises a presentation and lesson plan to support teachers in introducing e-safety to learners. Before using this presentation with learners it is essential that the person delivering the training works their way through the material and associated notes. The presentation needs to be played as a slideshow to access the links embedded into it.

These materials can support teachers/trainers and tutors in thinking about introducing safeguarding to learners. They were produced for LSIS by the National Association for Managers of Students Services in Colleges (NAMSS) and they look at safeguarding both within the college (or any learning environment) and outside. The materials include presentations to use with learners, as well as a lesson plan, icebreaker activity and tutorial template.

etf:1885

These materials are designed to be used with learners with mixed abilities and ages, from a range of learning and skills settings, and include materials for a number of activities. They are a starting point for raising awareness of safeguarding issues in their organisation and may need adjustment or additions to be more suitable for your learners. The presentation takes learners through all of the activities and materials for activities 2-4 are provided. You can make any appropriate changes as necessary, and are encouraged to offer support to learners with specific learning needs.
