Description:

A report describing a project focusing on issues surrounding disabled learners in a Further Education college, and more specifically their experiences of the practice which was focused on their learning

Taxonomy:
Practitioner Research and Evidence Hub:
Yes
Principal focus of the project:

The principal aim of the project was to assist tutors working with disabled learners in the improvement of skills and knowledge in relation to disabled learners, exploring particularly innovative developmental models. The researchers conducted a survey and settled upon a joint practice development model to test approaches, working with ten tutors on a one-to-one basis to pilot those approaches

What is this about and what were the main findings:

All staff involved in JPD through this project provided positive feedback during the data collection phase. In contrast to comments on "cascade" training, staff involved described feeling very positive about the process in its ability to tackle a wide range of issues, including supporting learners with mental health issues, supporting learners to engage fully with relevant material, and arranging work placements for students with learning difficulties
