This case study describes a project between Reaseheath College and agricultural organisations with the goal of reducing the gap between skills and competencies being taught and those required in the agricultural sector.
The project focused on embedding LEAN management skills and principles into curriculum content and delivery in order to reform the skills system for the future. The programme sought to enhance engagement with employers and provide iterative improvements through a 'virtuous cycle' of knowledge sharing between all parties, and to integrate farm and curriculum activity.
The project found that the teams were more willing to reflect and openly debate approaches to teaching and learning and thus enhanced both the quality of teaching and of learning, and the quality and consistency of curriculum delivery. Students gained increased ambition and pride in the project.
