This project took an inclusive approach to target setting by encouraging English and Maths learners in HMP Liverpool to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses.
This project aimed to improve target setting by encouraging English and Maths learners in HMP Liverpool to reflect on their learning and feel confident in independently identifying their own strengths and weaknesses.
Planned classroom-based discussions with learners trialling aspiration-raising reflective practices had to abandoned, as they were resticted to in-cell education during lockdown. This meant they had to work independently through tasks with very limited tutor contact. 'Exit slips' or telephone interviews were used to capture quick responses from learners on what they had just studied, identifying their strengths and weaknesses. The team felt that the project had highlighted the importance of learner motivation and involvement.
