Principal focus of the project:

This project aimed to encourage and develop a culture of reading and improving engagement by trialling two separate interventions with two distinct groups (BTEC Business and BTEC Performing Arts).

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The project aimed to embed reading activities in the curriculum through incremental changes, to improve students' vocabulary, emotional intelligence and exam success, and ultimately alter their mindsets. The Business students had a presentation by a local author, Mark Legg, and were given a copy of his book 'The Business Builder', while the Performing Arts students watched the film Anna Karenina and were also given the book to read. The project reported that though a shift in culture was hard to quantify and evidence, the feedback from students had been extremely positive.
