Principal focus of the project:

The paper reports on the development of a training needs analysis (TNA) tool with the objective of gaining a richer picture of the training needs including aspirations and past experience.

The tool was trialed with an individual employer and wih 40 employees

What is this about and what were the main findings:

The tool was developed locally and trialled, together with a 30 minute interview, on 40 staff from a major local employer. Both college and employer reported benefits including (for the employer) a deeper understnding of the existing skills of their workforce and (for the college) a more accurate fit between training design and needs. They recommended testing a TNA tool first in otrder to check its effectiveness and find a supportive employer who will give honest and constructive feedback. Being aware of adata protectin issues was also a learning point. Data was gathered from document analysis and interviews/surveys.
