The project aimed to involve Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) more fully in the process of promoting a growth mindset and greater independence in the learning of Maths.
This project aimed to explore ways of improving the effectiveness of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) when working with learners to improve their confidence levels in Maths.
From an internal survey, it was found that LSAs often lacked confidence with Maths, were excluded from schemes of work, and it became clear that more clarity was needed as to their specific role. Mentoring and modelling was used to develop LSAs, and the project reported that this had successfully led to a review of the organisation's use and support of them. Learner retention also appeared to have increased.
