A case study exploring ways of adding value to learner outcomes by improving learning through increasing the quality of teaching and by including peer-to-peer learning to generate greater learner independance geared towards academic progress.
The project focused on continuing professional development to refine colleagues' differentiation skills, and, in parallel offered training, and used a small team of volunteer students as 'leaders of learning'. These leaders of learning then underwent training before engaging in one-to-one micro-teaching sessions on agreed topics.
Leaders developed subject understanding, inter-personal skills, and broadened their view of their potential careers. Staff engaged in the project activities also learned what does and doesn't work in their teaching and also developed skills for encouraging greater learner independence. While learner satisfaction declined during the project, there was an improvement in teaching methodology for the majority of departments.
