Workshadowing in the community: Knowsley Community College

Five members of College staff , directly supporting local employability provision for unemployed people of different backgrounds and needs, each spent one week in a one of two local Job Centres, shadowing Job Centre staff and gaining an insight into referral procedures and potential improvements available to these. This case study describes the impacts on the organisation, the partner organisation and the community, and the lessons learned.

Using Technology for Community Engagement - Cambridgeshire Library Learning Centre

Cambridgeshire Library Learning Centre aimed to use ICT and social media to enable the sharing of information and knowledge across the countryside area of Cambridgeshire known as “the Fens”. The sharing of information would aid in the increase of productivity levels and address social isolation through the use of social media.

Using Technology for Community Engagement - City College Plymouth

City College Plymouth aimed to engage new learners from disaffected and deprived backgrounds to become college students. It worked with community based iorganisations, such as the Shekinah mission (an organisation supporting homeless people) delivering learning at their premises, and then identified progression opportunities to join a mainstream college course.

Isle of Wight College: Piloting the It's My Community toolkit

On the back of The Isle of Wight being identified by the Office of National Statistics as an employment blackspot, this pilot used the It's My Community toolkit to bring learners and the business community together to investigate ways to stimulate employment and job creation. The toolkit helped learners frame the questions asked during the project, and broadened the learners thinking about community and its relationship with local business.

Accrington and Rossendale College: Piloting the It's My Community toolkit

This project aimed to develop a delivery model for a community based initiative based on the It’s My Community Toolkit, implementing and delivering the toolkit to identified learners across the college cohort. The toolkit supported staff and learners in undertaking a community development initiative, based on analysis of a community and its needs.

Social Enterprise Ambassadors - Longden Ltd

Taking part in the Social Enterprise Ambassadors' Programme, Longden looked to increase collaboration between themselves as a learning and skills provider and the West Midlands social enterprise sector. Further, Longden wished to to build their capacity to create a Social Enterprise by refining the work that they do within the five Local Authorities to create self sustaining activities and contributing to a philosophy of doing more for less.
