Cambridgeshire Library Learning Centre aimed to use ICT and social media to enable the sharing of information and knowledge across the countryside area of Cambridgeshire known as “the Fens”. The sharing of information would aid in the increase of productivity levels and address social isolation through the use of social media. The pilot worked with Fenland Farmers to produce a new online resource, purchase and develop the domain (www.fenlandfarmers.org.uk) to encourage the fens farming community to become self-supportive and pool their combined knowledge to resolve issues. As of 21 March 2011, there were 2731 visitors to the Fenland Farmers site that has been set up since January. This is continually growing at a rate of approximately 100 -200 a week at present with participants sharing and developing their skillls and knowledge on a range of issues related to agricultural issues through to training offered by adult and community learning providers.
