A case study evaluating Equality and Diversity practice in an FE college within a catchment area with a predominantly white population.
This report focuses on evaluating if an Equality and Diversity strategy has been successful in changing attitudes and adding value to the education of students with restricted experience of a multi-racial community. It performed this through focus groups and interviews with students and staff members, and contains a literature review to focus the case study's analysis.
This case study reported that the college's Cultural Diversity Week was successful in raising the profile of equality and diversity issues relating to BME representation in the student population among staff and students. It identified that BME learners were still under-represented within the college when compared to national figures, and as a percentage of the Cornwall population, although the figures at the time of writing were noted as improving.
