A case study of a project to explore the key requirements for level 6 study and ways to incorporate the findings effectively into teaching.
The project aims were to: find out what higher education providers considered to be key learner requirements for level 6 study; incorporate the requirements into their teaching at access and foundation degree levels; better prepare learners for higher education courses at local universities and colleges; and to facilitate students' progression to Level 6.
Participating colleges interviewed staff to find out what approaches would be most beneficial to adopt at Level 5, and developed and evaluated common rubrics of teaching & learning strategies. They also assessed development of key skills in learners' work. Through observations, samples of learner work and rubric data, the project concluded that flipped learning and seminar strategies were effective approaches to better prepare learners for higher education courses.
