Description:

An impact study describing a project that explored solutions to inconsistencies in tracking learner progress.

Principal focus of the project:

Quality Assurance reviews and Ofsted observations identified an inconsistency in tracking and recording of learner progress across a range of qualifications in the lead college (and other providers). A consortium of colleges explored the benefits and challenges of different approaches to using the Moodle gradebook and provide guidance for colleagues to reduce learning curves.

What is this about and what were the main findings:

A consistent and standardised method for monitoring and tracking learning progress was developed through sharing of expertise in using the gradebook. This was done through video conferencing and the support of an external consultant. Uptake and use of the gradebook rose in at least one of the colleges involved, in proportion to the ease of use. Providing a template for using the gradebook was identified as a potential time and cost saving practice. Integration of existing monitoring tools and information systems was also mooted as a potential benefit. Learners valued being able to trach their progress, which led to more timely completion of tasks. Data was gathered from participants/observers.
