Derby College partnership: Best practice in delivering sector-based work academies

This resource relates to one of a series of collaborative development projects on the themes of Getting people into work and Apprenticeships. Each project was coordinated by a lead provider, who recruited partner providers to work together to achieve the project objectives. The Derby College partnership included nine providers, who looked at provision at 'Employment World @ Derby College’ provision, which aims to equip Jobcentre Plus (JCP) claimants with the skills required to re-join the workforce.

In response to the planned introduction of Job Outcome Incentive Payments in the 2012-13 academic year, this project was designed to establish a recruitment agency- style service to support unemployed people and students finding work. PRC recognised that existing business relationships could be utilised to achieve job outcomes for learners. The aim was to use Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a lever to encourage businesses to support their local community and help reduce levels of unemployment.

Project synopsis
Project Jericho has enabled 500 school students (age 14-16) to experience online workplace visits, gaining firsthand knowledge of the way in which workplaces operate and the kind of situations and working patterns school learners are likely to experience if they pursue an apprenticeship. School learners using NetCam audio and video technology are able to visit the workplace, questioning apprentices about their apprenticeship without leaving their school.

All Traders Training (ATT) Limited: Removing barriers to employment through QCF units and qualifications

ATT formed in 2007 to provide a range of learning opportunities in the East of England. The provider secured a £2.3 million contract with the Skills Funding Agency in January 2012 to deliver Apprenticeships for 19-24 year olds who are not in employment, education or training (NEET).
