This resource relates to one of a series of collaborative development projects on the themes of Getting people into work and Apprenticeships. Each project was coordinated by a lead provider, who recruited partner providers to work together to achieve the project objectives. The Derby College partnership included nine providers, who looked at provision at 'Employment World @ Derby College’ provision, which aims to equip Jobcentre Plus (JCP) claimants with the skills required to re-join the workforce. Derby College’s model involves working in partnership with employers and JCP to deliver the Government’s initiative of sector-based work academies. Features include combining skills training with an element of work experience, a guaranteed interview related to real vacancies, the use of the qualifications and credit framework (QCF) and contextualised employability units.
